How to Successfully Start Small Business Online

start small business online

With advancements in internet technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) and most recently agentic Ais, it’s now easy and fast for any aspiring entrepreneur to start small business online successfully without any hassles. So, if you’re ambitious and determined to succeed, you can use available free and paid web tools to automate and simplify your daily business tasks and jobs without wearing yourself to death.

Whether you already have an existing offline business which you want to migrate to the internet or you’re thinking of starting an online business entirely, the basic steps of running and growing a business profitably remain the same. I’ll discuss these details shortly for clarity.

But first, you’re either going to create and sell a product or provide services to a targeted audience who has the need for it on the internet after you’ve done your due diligence and conducted market research satisfactorily to that effect. In the area of creating products to sell, it could be a physical product or digital product or both.

However, the most important take away is that you’ve to identify an audience who has pain points to solve, build trust and relationship with them and provide the needed solution for your target audience through a reliable platform.

To make it easy for you to get clients or customers at scale, you’ve to demonstrate high level of expertise in your niche and gain trust from your ideal customers. This is why it’s important you’ve to prove yourself as a thought leader in your industry before you start promoting and selling products and services to your target market.

The other area which you’ve to closely look at is getting a platform to publish your content and/or showcase your products and services. More often than not, a lot of entrepreneurs want to make money online without a website. While it’s possible to do so but I must tell you that it’s not advisable if your business goal is for the long term.

The first step is for you to research online business ideas which you can start and choose one out of them after juxtaposing it with your experience, expertise, interest, or passion.

The second step is for you to investigate, study, identify and understand your ideal customers. This is where you’ve to draw up your basic ICP (ideal customer profile) for easy reference and guidance. You must understand the fact that you don’t have a business if there are no clients or customers to serve. So, having prospects and leads to prime for the sale is key to your online business success.

If it’s an existing business, it will be easy to find data of your best customers by simply looking at long-term customers, large accounts customers, or even affiliate marketers who have brought in large and constant sales for you from their independent promotions. This is where building email marketing list is vital to the success of your small business online.

You can make use of CRM automation systems, Google Analytics and market survey tools to come up with your ICP. For example, you can use SurveyMonkey or JotForm to ask questions, and elicit information about the pain points of your target audience if you are building and nurturing an email list of subscribers.

However, you’ll easily get better responses if you incentivize your list members with a complementary free PDF ebook, video or anything than can go for an ethical bribe.

I can assure you that it’s not expensive to start a small business online. With as little as $200, you can build a website, create a blog, and subscribe to reliable email marketing software for a start. Your website investment will include registering a domain name, buying web hosting, and subscribing to an email service provider (ESP). This will create a strong foundation for you to start and grow a profitable business.

Personally, before I start any business online, my first task is to make sure there is enough demand for what I want to do. This will involve me spending money to buy web hosting, create a blog for free, regularly publish content on my blog, consistently build email subscribers’ list, and religiously follow the engagement before taking any step further.

There is myriad of website tools which you can make use of to execute these tasks such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Google Keyword Planner. The good news is that they are free to use. It will help you to know the direction of your small online business before you go full throttle.

You’ve to understand that every step of your small business journey is important to your overall success. For instance, you have to write a business plan to guide you as work on your project. Also, if there is any need to get licenses and/or certificate of proficiency in your field, you’ve to sort that out as well.

In any case, the bulk of your regular tasks will involve consistently creating content and driving targeted traffic to your website or blog. You’ve to learn SEO (search engine optimization) if you want to invest less on paid adverts such as PPC (pay per click) advertising.

All in all, if you want to start small business online, simply invest in:

  • Domain name registration,
  • Buy web hosting,
  • Create a blog,
  • Regularly publish high quality content on your blog,
  • Optimize your blog for search engines and AI overviews,
  • Set up analytics to monitor traffic sources,
  • Build an email list of subscribers,
  • Monetize your blog accordingly, and
  • Make improvements as you go.

The essence of starting a small business on the internet is to make money. Beyond that, you must be willing to put your best foot forward in researching problems and challenges your target market are facing and proffering spot-on solution to solve them.

Like I said earlier, building trust and credibility must be your priority when starting an online business. As a matter of fact, potential buyers are always wary of strangers who are looking for the gullible to fleece out of their hard-earned money.

Unless you can demonstrate it beyond every reasonable doubt that you are for real, making money online will be a mirage. I have spent months on this side hustle blog publishing content (even though by fits and starts) to gain traction before seriously monetizing it.

This is why as an entrepreneur you should not expect immediate ROI (return on investment) from your business without giving out value first.

How to Start a Side Hustle and Quit Your Day Job

Do you know that you can start a side hustle and be able to quit your day job in a matter of months? With unfettered access to the World Wide Web, unabated technological advancements, and by dint of determination to succeed, you’ve what it takes to be your own boss. But you must not downplay on the sacrifice on your path which will make things to work for you.

Although the internet presents and promises a lot of goodies in terms of making money online, I’ll not advise you to quit your day job from day one without starting a side hustle that guarantees your future income each and every month. With easy access to advanced internet technologies, anyone can start a side hustle while working from home and make money.

Starting a side hustle is not complicated if you’ve bankable or viable business ideas that solve pain points which your target audience will be willing to pay for. The best way to get started is to create, manage and own a platform where you can continue to interact with your ideal customers, demonstrate your expertise, and build credibility with them before selling any product or service they need.

An easy route is to create a blog with self-hosted content management system like WordPress, optimize it for SEO (search engine optimization) and AI (artificial intelligence), and consistently publish content as solutions which should be related to the topics and pain points of your target market.

As you know, there are broadly two ways to serve any market of your choice. The first way is to create a product that solves a challenge, problem, or fill a gap in the marketplace. This could be a physical or digital product.

The second way is to provide a service based on your skill set or expertise. You can do this as a freelancer or broker where you’ll be paid based on the agreed fee charged by you and accepted by your hirer. Examples of service-based solutions are being a freelance writer, graphic designer, or web developer.

It’s easy to start a side hustle business these ways and become highly successful than waiting for an auspicious but elusive moment to quit your day job and start your own business in a big way. For example, I was still holding down my day job when I started an affiliate marketing business some years back.

As soon as I understood the nuts and bolts of promoting and selling affiliate products and services on the internet and consistently earning commissions thereof, I diversified into domaining and website flipping. It was then I realized that the secrets to every online business success is hinged mainly on determination, consistency, and the willingness to learn.

Today, I may not be able to make money online to build skyscrapers all over the world, but I’ve been able to achieve financial freedom of my dreams by being self-employed. I work from home every day, and I decide when to sleep and wake up. It has also offered me the opportunity to pursue my spiritual lifestyle without any hindrances of any kind.

You must be able to allocate quality time to tend to your side hustles every week. You’ve to be religious about it. You’ve to show up in your internet business at least one hour a day. You’ve to study any online business model inside out which you want to start with. This is important so that you can quickly spot and avoid mistakes inimical to any business success.

At the barest minimum, you need to invest money to register a domain name, buy web hosting services, and set up an email marketing software to build an email list of subscribers. To make it easy for you to sell any product or service on the internet, you need people who know, like and trust you in any specific niche. So, list building is an integral part of every successful digital marketing system which you must not ignore for any reason.

I have written a step-by-step web hosting guide to help you sign up with HostGator with ease and get a free domain name from them to start your side hustle business seamlessly. With less than $200 as your out-of-pocket cash investment, you can start a blog and make money in any niche market of your passion in a matter of 90 days or less.

Creating digital products or services to sell, promoting affiliate products, blogging, freelancing, and so on, are some of the many ways to start side hustles and make money. While there is learning curve involved in all these models, it’s doable if you’re determined to succeed. Yes, anyone can learn it and make money on the internet!

When I was starting out, I told myself that I want to quit my 9 to 5 job within 365 days or less. To this end, I decided to write a business plan to guide me in every step of the way and everything I wanted to do.

Barring all unforeseen circumstances, I clearly spelt out all the details of what I want to do to quit my day job in record time, i.e. from business idea conception to creating a platform to monetize my content to online marketing strategies which I deployed, and so on.

If you don’t leave any stone unturned and you’re a stickler to details, there is no way you cannot make money online and quit your job sooner rather than later. As a digital publisher, you’ve what it takes to successfully build a small business from home without all the bells and whistles associated with brick-and-mortar world.

How to Build Wealth with Side Hustles Online

How to build wealth
Source:CWMGary on Freeimages.com

Are you constantly bogged down with money worries? Are you looking for ways to get out of debt and build wealth without living from paycheck to paycheck? Do you know that it’s possible to learn how to build wealth with side hustles online if you’re willing and able to work hard and work smart?

Few years ago, I was in a financial quagmire until I decided to take the bull by the horn by taking calculated decisions to create wealth for my future, one step at a time. This blog article will show you how to make things work for you without any bogus claims or hype.

These are practical financial advice which you can take to the bank any day or time.

First, let’s look at the basic steps to set the ball rolling.

Step #1: Order Your Priorities Right

Do you know that building wealth is an education in itself? You’ve to learn and consistently practice what you learn. As a wealth builder, you’ve to evaluate every financial decision you make, day by day and from time to time.

You must do away with poor financial habits and impulse buying to get things right. If you’re wont to buying this or that product or service at whim and thinking it doesn’t really matter, your walk into financial freedom is far off. You’ve to set your priorities right so as to make wealth sooner or later.

A simple way to get good at this is to plan for every expense you only need to fill and invest every extra dollar to earn more money. For example, one of my online side hustles is domain flipping. For every domain name I’m able to sell, I already have an investment plan for it.

It saves me the hassles of wasteful spending and regretting it later. If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll not be able to ask the right questions and know exactly how to get there. If your goal this year is to learn how to start a side hustle business and make money, why not take an inventory of what it will cost you to achieve it and take steps to get started?

If you’re focusing on a side business to build wealth, it means you’ve to take it as a priority and be ready to invest some of the money you earn. As it were, where there is no priority or plan for anything worthwhile, you’re bound to fail woefully.

Step #2: Learn and Master Financial Intelligence

Take it or leave it, financial education is paramount to creating wealth and sustaining it anywhere in the world. And you need to learn and master it. Starting a business you know nothing about is tantamount to failure even before you get step your foot in the door.

A simple analogy to buttress this point home is that nobody can handle the steering and expertly drive a car on his or her first day of learning how to drive without making faulty starts. The same way, your desire and investments efforts in building wealth may hit the rocks if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Next time, don’t spend money to buy anything without thinking it out first and be sure it’s worth buying for your future good.

Step #3: Plant Your Money Trees

There are a lot of online side hustles you can use to build wealth assuredly. It depends on what you are good at or like to do. But you’ve to be creative and smart to excel at any one of them. If you ask me, every type of online business you may want to start will be overly saturated but only your creativity and unique angle to it will stand you out from the crowd.

But you’ve to plant your money trees one step at a time. If you decide to start with affiliate marketing business and you’ve become profitable at it, you can then go on with the next business idea such as website flipping and so on. This is where having at least smattering of your side hustle business is essential so that you’ll know what tasks to outsource or perform yourself at any point in time.

If you’ve done the above ground work to set the ball rolling, you can follow these ground rules for wealth building.

  • Avoid reflex or impulse buying. Compulsive buying of goods and services you don’t really need will leave you with little or nothing to save and invest for the rainy day.
  • Spend high chunk of your money on assets that appreciate or have high secondhand value when you want to sell or flip at a later date or the asset generates regular income.
  • Diversify your investments to be on the safe side of life or be able to hedge against uncertain economic events. The common saying that you should not put all your eggs in one basket applies here.
  • You’ve to learn more to earn more especially in related and complementary fields of investments, joint ventures (JVs), partnership, starting and growing a business, and so forth.
  • Have a vision, budget and plan to guide you on your journey of wealth building so that you can become wealthy within a time frame.
  • Keep your spending down to the barest minimum while you constantly find ways to boost your income. You may have to avoid consumer debts like a plague if possible. Don’t bite more than you can chew.
  • Take inventory of what you own versus what you owe to help you determine your net worth. Having assets in excess of liabilities is an indication that you’re on the right track or solvent holding other economic variables constant.
  • Develop a system and plan to knock off your debt in record time. Taking up side hustles online or second job may speed up your debt free financial journey.
  • Have the discipline and willpower to follow your plan to the letter.
  • Increase or boost your earning capacity by starting a blog. It gives you leverage over time to monetize your blog as you gain traction and followers.

If you can set your priorities straight, it will be easy to build wealth with side hustles online. You can learn digital skills to increase your ability to earn more. Also, mastering online marketing will help you to sell yourself, brand, product or service to your target audience.

But do you know that for you to earn money online or offline, you’ve to be a problem solver or solution provider for any target market who has a problem to solve and is willing to pay for it?

If you want to make money on the internet into the foreseeable future, your greatest challenge is how to identify problems or pain points in the marketplace and provide solutions to solve them. So, your first task is to hone market research and keyword research skills which will help you discover the needs and wants of any target audience.

So, as an entrepreneur, your primary job is to research pain points in the market before thinking of how to make money online.

Step #2: Position Yourself as an Expert

From day one of starting an online business, begin to work and build on your expertise status. People buy from who they know, like and trust and it all boils down to the expertise of the vendor, merchant or seller of a product or service. There is no sentiment in buying and selling in business but rather it is the exchange of value between parties.

When it comes to business, nobody wants to throw money away just like that. It’s about making profits and more of it when the goods are delivered. If you’re an expert on a subject, topic or field, it makes it easier for you to promote any product or service and close sales seamlessly.

It doesn’t matter what entrepreneurial hat you’re wearing; you can make money as an expert if you’re strategic in product delivery. As a blogger, webmaster, product creator, content creator, etc, becoming an expert in your field is what will make the difference and stand you out from the competition.

You’ve to read up books, be abreast of industry news and trends always, sign up with relevant online courses or get a coach to become who you want to be. It helps!

You can research existing experts in your field and sign up for their business newsletters. Continue to look over their shoulders and get viable online business ideas you can start working on in earnest.

Learn from different ways they promote their blogs, websites, products and services to their target audience and practice it. As far as I know, you can never know enough of anything. There is always room for learning, improvements and perfection.

Step #3: Determine Your Ideal Target Audience

If you’re an expert or entrepreneur in your field and you don’t have reasonable number of people to serve in the marketplace, you’ll not make money to break even. It’s as simple as that! This is why patience is required for you to start and grow an online business profitably.

And the best way to discover a target audience with pain points is to create a blog and set up an email marketing system which will enable you to build an email list of subscribers from scratch.

From this point, you’ll continue to nurture your leads, ask questions, take surveys and send out questionnaires to know what your target market wants. If you have 10,000 subscribers who want you to create a digital product on a topic which you’re an expert, you’re good to go.

You can also take it a step further by creating buyer persona so that you’ll know the content to create and publish to gain traction to your website, get authority, create brand awareness, generate leads and close sales as the case may be.

If you want to leap and not limp in your internet business, create and publish unique content consistently to attract your ideal clients, readers, followers and fans. You cannot be a stingy entrepreneur and expect to make passive income online.

For example, if you own a blog website with lots of unique content, you can promote affiliate products and services and earn affiliate commissions. Also, you may write an ebook, monetize it with affiliate links to complementary products and start giving it away for free.

Obviously, starting an online business successfully requires hard work, smart work, consistency and persistence upfront but the pay-off can astounding. Whether this is your side hustle or work from home business, you’ll succeed at it if you know what you’re doing.

Step #7: Promote, Promote and Promote Your Business

No matter the type of business you run on the internet, you’ve to regularly promote it to get results. If you don’t advertise your business, people will not know it exists. This is why you’ve to learn some digital skills to reduce the cost of running an internet business.

As an online business owner, you’ve to hone search engine optimization (SEO), digital marketing, keyword research and list building skills at the barest minimum. You must understand that online marketing is an ongoing task that must be executed.

  • Etc

In conclusion, you should be able to consistently position, package and promote your product or service to your target niche market if you hope to start your own online business and make money from home.

How to Use Blogging and Content Marketing to Increase Your Website Traffic

blogging and content marketing

If you’re aspiring to start a side hustle business or already have one, you can increase your website traffic, leads, prospects, referrals, sales and revenue by deploying and using blogging and content marketing strategies to achieve your goals. These two digital marketing tactics alone will positively impact on your bottom line by leaps and bounds.

As you may already know, the World Wide Web is powered by constant content and information about topics of interest to any target group of people at any point in time; be it videos, ebooks, audio, books, blog posts, podcasts, webinars, white papers, newsletters, and so on. So, you can tap into any or combination of these content formats and use it to create brand awareness and get clients consistently to your side hustle business for the long term.

In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the steps to successfully start a blog and make money and then use content marketing to propel and popularize your side hustle business in the web space.

Let’s get started and talk about blogging.

Blogging is all about building a blog website on the internet where you can regularly create and publish content around a topic you know enough of and be willing to share, teach and educate others about it. And to build a blog, there are tools and resources which you’ve to invest in and deploy. I’ll talk about this shortly.

The most important aspect of blogging is publishing content consistently. This is the area a lot of bloggers miss out and fail to succeed. As it were, a blog is like an online journal or diary where you can chronicle every content worth sharing with your target audience. To this end, it’s necessary for you to constantly interact with your blog readers by publishing topical articles on it so that you and your business will remain top of the mind.

What do you’ve to blog about?

It’s about what your target readers will be interested in reading and learning from you. In essence, you’re positioning yourself as a solution provider or problem solver before your followers and fans by answering their questions and/or solving their problems or pain points.

This is why before you get started, you’ve to conduct market research and keyword research to know the palpable content gaps, needs and opportunities which you’ll be able to serve in the marketplace before you create a blog.

For example, if you decide to run a personal finance blog where you’ll discuss, among other things, side hustle ideas, starting a business successfully, budgeting, investing, and building wealth, etc, you’ve to know where your potential audience are on the buyer’s journey so that you can write and publish specific content that will resonate with them.

For you to create a blog on a self-hosted CMS (content management system) platform like WordPress.org, you’ve to register a domain name and buy web hosting. Any website hosting company which you decide to sign up with must support WordPress hosting to make it easy for you to set up your blog website seamlessly even if you’re a newbie or beginner.

I’ve been using HostGator web hosting to build websites and create blogs in different niche markets. They are quite affordable, reliable and they have excellent customer support in case you run into technical issues that need to be resolved by a professional sooner than later.

In addition, HostGator offers free domain name registration when you purchase website hosting from this link. Obviously, this is my affiliate link and if you use it to get web hosting, send me an email to request my premium blogging guide which will help you to start a blog and make money in a matter of weeks like a pro blogger.

The best part about blogging is that it’s interactive between you and your readers especially if you publish high quality content regularly. It’s blogging and content sharing that make the internet merry go round. Personally, blogging for money is my passion as long as I’m constantly delivering value to my target audience in every niche market I’m targeting.

Here are the basic steps to start a successful blog.

  • Choose a niche market to target
  • Research a niche topic to focus on
  • Conduct keyword research to find profitable search queries to write content about
  • Create a blog to get started
  • Optimize your blog for on-page SEO
  • Set up data analytics to measure website activities
  • Regularly publish content on your blog targeting profitable keywords
  • Monetize your blog to make money online
  • Promote your blog and build backlinks
  • Measure your web metrics and improve where necessary

In a nutshell, the above steps are the length and breadth of blogging, and anybody can do it. However, it takes time for your blog website to gain traction in your target niche market. You’ve to be exceptionally creative to stand out in the blogosphere in any niche today because of cutthroat competition. And you’ve to be patient too.

If you’re starting a blog to make money, you’ve to set your priorities right from the get-go. You’ve to optimize your blog for on-page SEO, target low competition but profitable long tail keyword phrases, regularly publish high quality content, promote your blog, build authority backlinks and connect with your prospects and leads anywhere they regularly congregate, build an email list of subscribers, and so on.

Blogging is a serious business and you’ve to treat it as such. There is a huge learning curve for you to navigate if you’re just getting started as a beginner. But you can be rest assured that it pays the bills ultimately if you can maintain a blog around a topic that people are eager to learn more from an expert like you.

A lot of successful bloggers have transformed their blogs which started with a humble beginning into mega businesses making millions of dollars yearly in revenue. They got speaking engagements, coaching and consulting briefs, joint ventures and partnership opportunities, book contracts, etc, just by starting a blog around their areas of expertise and experience and staying through.

You should know that your target audience will perceive you as an authority or thought leader on a subject matter over time if you take blogging as a business through regular content publication and updates.

The flexibility in blogging can make you go viral with a single blog post especially if you’re controversial or opinionated on a topic in a good sense of the word. This can generate a lot of comments from your readers, followers and fans and you’ll be able to interact with them and balance opinions on any subject matter at hand.

The most vital virtues you can hone as a blogger are charisma, uniqueness, expertise, having a listening ear and promptly answering questions you’re asked frequently. This can quickly turn your blog articles into user generated content that will create website activities and positive experience.

Blogging is an integral part of content marketing, and having an active blog in a niche market puts you light years ahead of other average bloggers. From your blog, you can build an email list of subscribers who will serve as a pool of ready buyers when you’ve a product or service to promote and sell to them.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is the bread and butter of internet marketing. Simply put, content marketing is the research, creation and distribution of content about a topic of interest to a target group of people by someone (blogger, marketer, webmaster, online business owner, writer, author, etc).

The goal of content marketing could be to engage readers, create brand awareness, generate leads and prospects, retain customers or clients, and so on. A good content marketer must have smattering of SEO, keyword research, list building and marketing automation.

Beyond this, you’ve to create content marketing strategy and a plan to execute it with a time frame in mind. You should be able to research the competition to discover content gaps which you’ve to fill and use it to get free targeted traffic from search engines like Google.

Knowing content marketing tools to use at every stage of the buyer’s journey is critical to your success as well. At the heart of marketing with content is story telling. Your major goal as a content marketer is to engage with your target audience and build trust and credibility so that it becomes easy for you to drive positive customer action.

Online shoppers hardly buy a product or service on the first day they are exposed to it. It takes about seven times or so for a product to be exposed to a prospect before he decides to open his wallet and pay for it. And a potential customer will only do business with a merchant or vendor who he knows, like and trust.

In light of this, blogging and content marketing are the best and most viable strategies to get clients and customers to take the desired action. There is a lot of housekeeping details in planning and executing any content strategy.

You’ve to:

  • Know your audience
  • Research profitable keywords to target
  • Create a content plan
  • Write content to match every level of buyer persona
  • Publish content at designated channels to attract website visitors
  • Measure your metrics to evaluate areas that need improvements

Content Marketing with Personalization

A good content marketing campaign is when you integrate it with a list building software. This will help you to further follow up with blog readers who decide to join your mailing list and learn more about your business.

Building a mailing list will give you the opportunity to personalize marketing messages through automation and gain customer’s attention. All in all, blogging and content marketing will remain the most profitable ways to improve your search engines rankings, nurture leads and drive targeted traffic from various sources to your blog website. And you can get started now!

How to Write an Ebook and Make Money from It Online -Part 2

how to write an ebook and make money

In part one of this 2-part series on how to write an ebook and make money, I discussed the basic steps to become a successful book writer and/or author on the internet. In today’s blog post, I’ll continue with the discussion on how to write your ebook and take it to the bank in a matter of days.

Step #9: Price Your Ebook

First, ebook pricing is a function of many factors which I’ll briefly look into. In pricing your ebook, you’ve to consider your expertise and credibility with your target audience, demography and purchasing power of your target readers, and niche responsiveness to similar books on sale, etc.

If you own a blog and you’ve been regularly publishing content on it while focusing on your ebook topic, you should have an inkling of the topic’s popularity and how to price an ebook based on the information available to you. I’ve had situations where my readers ask me to write an ebook on a particular topic instead of them frantically trying to glean pieces of information here and there on the internet.

In this case, I can quickly whip up a book in a day or two as a freebie around this topic and use it to start building an email list for an ebook launch somewhere down the road. From there, I’ll be able to use questionnaire to elicit an average price my list members would be willing to pay.

But you’ve to be flexible in your pricing by testing various price points and know what the optimal best price is. This is where your sales volume bumps because it’s affordable to a larger number of your target niche market.

Also, you can price your ebook based on industry or competitors’ pricing. For example, if you’re self-publishing on Amazon KDP, the most popular price ranges are between $0.99 and $9.99. You’ll earn higher royalties when you price your ebook between $4.99 and $9.99.

What is the most important is the perceived value of the book you’re selling. This can be measured by the unique information and angle you’re providing your solutions from or by the content in the ebook and/or complementary bonuses you’re adding to the main digital product on sale.

Step #10: Set Up Your Sales, Order, Thank You and Download Pages

At this level, you want to set up your sales, order, thank you and download pages so that buyers can pay with their credit card and be able to download a copy of your digital product. If you’re using self-hosted WordPress blog platform, there are e-commerce plugins you can install to complete this task effortlessly and seamlessly.

But if you’re using HTML landing page template to sell ebooks on your own website, you may have to set up things manually. To this end, you’ve to create a separate folder in the root directory of your web hosting servers to house your digital content when you upload the ebook for sale as well as the sales page, order page, thank you page and download page.

However, make sure you exclude this folder from being indexed by Google or other search engines in the robots.txt file.

For you to do this successfully, you’ve to register a domain name and buy website hosting from a reliable web hosting company. Also, having a web host that supports WordPress hosting will enable you to set up things yourself without hiring any web designer or freelancer.

I’ll recommend HostGator web hosting for you if you don’t have a website hosting services yet. They are affordable and reliable with an excellent support service. Click this link to purchase web hosting from HostGator and get in touch with me for my premium blogging guide which will help you to start a blog and make money in a matter of weeks. It’s a blogging course you cannot afford to miss if you want to start a blog and make money blogging.

Step #11: Promote Your Ebook

Ebook promotion is where the success or failure of selling your ebook really lies. Ebook marketing is something you’ve to do consistently using variety of digital marketing strategies. Some of the best ways to promote your ebook is through blogging, content marketing, social media marketing, list building, just to mention a few.

You’re not going to look salesy as you constantly engage with your target readers with high quality content. As a matter of fact, your goal is to systematically take your readers through the buyer’s journey and close the sale in the end. And whoever is satisfied with the purchase will even become your evangelist to others who may have a need for your ebook.

If you’ve integrated deep on-page SEO (search engine optimization) in your blogging strategy and deliberately target low-competition long tail keywords, you should be able to rank on SERP (search engine results page) and get free targeted traffic consistently from search engines such as Google.com, Yahoo.com and Bing.com.

You can also use social media marketing to engage your prospects and leads by creating accounts with social media channels like LinkedIn.com, Facebook.com, Instagram.com, Pinterest.com, and X.com (formerly Twitter.com) which are the major platforms you should target. Social media marketing is a potent way to get targeted website visitors who are willing to act.

This is a very effective strategy if you’re able to set up an email marketing system on a specific landing page on your blog website to collect leads as you direct them from your social media accounts to your website.

Step #12: Set Up an Email Marketing Software, Affiliate Program or Joint Venture (JV)

For you not to feel overwhelmed at the beginning, it’s in your best interest to create an email marketing system using a reliable autoresponder software like GetResponse.com email marketing software.

It will enable you to start building an email list of subscribers from scratch as quickly as possible. Having a list of at least 100 subscribers who are highly targeted can go a long way to earn passive income online for you, month after month.

Statistics have it that email marketing is worth an average of $40 ROI (return on investment) for every dollar spent. This is to show you how important it is to build an email list of subscribers early enough for your ebook marketing success. If you don’t create a sales funnel to offer gift like free PDF ebook, video, email course, etc, you’ll continue to struggle to make money on the internet.

As soon as you start building an email list, the next task is to consistently nurture your leads by drip feeding your list members from your email marketing campaigns with unique, high-quality, shareable and linkable content.

Setting up an affiliate program is fast and easy if you go with affiliate programs networks like Clickbank.com, Impact.com, CJ.com, etc. However, the digital product you’re selling will determine the affiliate network you decide to sign up with. But I know that Clickbank.com is popular for digital products downloads such as electronic books and training videos.

As for joint ventures, you’ve to scout and research the internet to know JV partners you should make proposals to. However, having internet marketing clout and influence will make it easy for you to strike a deal. This is why building trust and credibility early enough on the World Wide Web are paramount to your success.

Step #13: Track and Analyze Your Traffic Metrics

The good news about every online business startup is that you can track and measure data such as sources of website traffic, volume of website visitors, search queries used to find specific web pages on your site, and so on.

And with the free Google Analytics and Google Search Console, you’re good to go without spending a dime to track, measure and improve on your website activities including content marketing.

Step #14: Make Money Selling Ebooks

If you’ve properly set up your sales order page to receive payments, you can start promoting your ebook to your target market as soon as possible. The best way to do this is to follow the ordering process yourself and be sure there is no hitch or glitch in the payment system.

With PayPal payment system, you can easily test this out and refund yourself.

Step #15: Scale, Rinse and Repeat in Other Niches

Writing and selling ebooks online is straightforward after the first attempt. You don’t have to fret over it at all. As a beginning ebook author, I was able to hit the ground running then and I’m happy I got myself started without the bell and whistle of mega launches you hear about online.

If you want to make $1000 a month online with certainty, simply sit down and dedicate few hours per day to learn how to write an ebook and sell it online. You’ll be glad you did!

As you can see, that is all to ebook writing and making money online from your side hustles. I want to read your comments, ask me questions and tell me specific topics you want me to write about. I’ll be glad to do that for my community of like minds. To your success!

How to Write an Ebook and Make Money from It Online

how to write an ebook and make money

If you’re searching for side hustle business ideas with an element of passive income attached to it, I can tell you that learning how to write an ebook is the best way to get started. There are so many ways to make money online from writing an ebook and distributing it globally or locally as the case may be.

In this blog post, I’ll lay everything bare for you to hit the ground running if you’re determined to start writing ebooks for money. As a matter of fact, there are creative ways to make passive income online with your ebook writing skill. I’ve been writing and selling ebooks online for decades now and, at a time, I thought the rising popularity of video marketing will obscure electronic books on sale. Hey, I was damn wrong!

A lot of readers out there still prefer electronic books to videos for personal reasons plus the cost of data involved in downloading videos especially in most developing countries of the world. But what you’ve to take home from here is that ebook marketing and consumption is not fading away any time soon.

So, if you learn how to write an ebook and make money from it, you’ve learned one of the best digital skills of all times. I’ll break down the ebook writing process for you which you can take to the bank if you’re not lazy to write your first ebook for sale sooner rather than later.

As a first ebook author and going forward, there are so many benefits that will accrue to you if you can write an ebook to sell for profit, or give away for free online marketing, or to demonstrate your expertise or thought leadership on a subject matter or simply use it to build an email list of subscribers in your target niche market.

My tried and tested steps of writing an ebook successfully and taking it to the marketplace are:

  1. Choose a niche market or target audience to serve
  2. Research your target audience’s pain points that need urgent solutions
  3. Choose an overarching and in-demand topic to write about
  4. Create an ebook outline to guide you while writing
  5. Write the ebook
  6. Proofread and edit the ebook
  7. Format the ebook
  8. Write the sales letter to promote your ebook
  9. Price your ebook
  10. Set up sales page and download page and other essential web pages
  11. Promote your ebook
  12. Set up email marketing software, affiliate program or joint venture (JV)
  13. Track and analyze your traffic metrics
  14. Make money selling ebooks
  15. Scale, rinse and repeat in other niches

First, you can write an ebook and sell it online from your own website or simply go to any third-party websites such as Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) where you can upload your ebook on the go and sell to an already existing market. There are benefits attached to any of the methods which you decide to make use of over the other.

But if you understand the process to a Tee, you can do both and be in more profits. If you ask me, creating and selling digital products is a game changer for any entrepreneur who wants to learn how to make passive income online, month in and month out.

Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of writing and selling ebooks online. Frankly speaking, ebook authoring is not rocket science; anybody can learn how to write an ebook and make money online as you’ll discover shortly.

Step #1: Choose a Niche Market or Target Audience to Serve

In writing an ebook, you cannot be everything to everybody. No! You want to be recognized as a specialist or expert on a subject matter and not a generalist. A generalist is like a rolling stone that gathers no moss. The only way your target audience will take you seriously in your ebook marketing campaigns is when you’re perceived as an expert in your specific field.

So, your starting point is to choose a niche market where you sincerely believe you know and have a lot of information you can teach and share with your potential readers. This is why niching down is very important for every successful online business owner.

For instance, if you know much about money matters and budgeting, you can write an ebook on personal finance and focus on that niche. You can even dig deeper if you think there is a unique angle or knowledge where you can have an edge and be able to stand out from the crowd.

There are many niches out there that you can choose from if you want to write your first ebook. From off the top of my head, I can talk about niches such as make money on the internet, parenting, relationship and marriage, green energy, business, investments, travelling and tour, self-help and personal development, weight loss and fitness, health and wellness, beauty and lifestyle, diet and exercise, career and professional development, just to name a few.

What you’ll be concerned about is to evaluate your interest vis-à-vis profitability of your target market. A good intersection is where your potential profits will be able to cover your expenses and then some to reward you for your time, energy and efforts invested in the ebook business without compromising quality.

Because you’ll be selling downloadable digital product, you’re almost guaranteed 95 to 98 percent profit for every ebook sold. The best part is that you’ll take more profit if you sell ebooks from your own website by setting up a simple payment gateway like PayPal.com to receive money from buyers.

Creating PayPal payment button is the easiest way to start selling ebooks on the internet.

However, choosing a niche market for your ebook writing business, you’ve to consider these criteria:

  • Have above average expert knowledge on the topic or you’re willing to learn and research.
  • Make sure there is enough demand for the topic that you want to write about.
  • Discover if your potential leads or prospects have disposable income to spend or willing to buy your digital product.
  • Create a mailing list, if possible, to test the waters and gauge the response or outcome of your target audience.
  • Start a blog in your target market, create content related to your intended ebook and follow the comments section to measure the interest of your readers.

Even if the demand for an ebook will not be profitable to you, creating a blog in that niche can help you to make money online through other blog monetization channels such as Google AdSense, sponsored posts, and so on.

Step #2: Research Your Target Audience’s Pain Points that Need Urgent Solutions

If you find a market to serve, the next step is to research their pain points that need urgent solutions. This is where market research is vital to understanding the solution your target audience will take a bite on, embrace and pay for.

I’m not talking about run-of-the-mill solutions which are basically generic and can be found for free online. No! You want to professionally present answers to burning questions, proffer specific solution to desperate problems or provide detailed information or guide on a subject or topic.

If you’ve been on the World Wide Web for any length of time, you’ll agree with me that most information marketing and digital products for sale are regurgitated pieces without adding any tangible value to people’s lives. Your goal is to be a problem solver or solution provider by unleashing quality information in the ebook to add value to people’s lives.

You cannot discover problems which people are facing by guess work. You’ve to hear from the horse’s mouth by asking and listening to them. And you can do this through niche forums membership, questions and answers sites, surveys, questionnaires, email list, blogging, making use of keyword research tools, and having conversations via social media channels.

You can really get creative with this. Make the efforts to find out where your target audience congregate or hang out and be part of them. Listen to their challenges, rantings and the solutions they have subscribed to in the past and didn’t work exactly as they expected. You may not re-invent the wheel per se but you can look out for content gaps to fill up and make money with your ebook.

Information marketing is big business and a huge industry. You’ve to find a unique angle to attack it from and make money online. Every day, people are frantically searching for information on the World Wide Web to achieve specific and desired results and you can be the gateway (for a fee of course) to make it happen!

It’s the problems which you’ve discovered from this step that will form the foundation of choosing an overarching topic to write about in the next step of this ebook writing course.

Step #3: Choose an Overarching and In-demand Topic to Write About

The topic you choose to write about should obviously have subtopics cluster that will address the problems of your target audience with your ebook solution. For example, if we look at personal finance again, you’ll have subtopics such as earning income, students’ debt, budgeting, savings, investing, and so on.

You can decide to create an ebook on how to start side hustles to pay off student loans in record time. As a matter of fact, I’m making serious preparations to start a personal finance blog to teach and help my readers on how to build wealth and prosper in this age of technology. It’s going to be a no-brainer blog on building wealth on a budget based on my experience, education and training as an accountant and entrepreneur.

If you create a blog and start building an email list of subscribers, it will be easy for you to send out questionnaires and conduct online surveys to elicit information from your followers about what they want to learn from you. You can sign up for my business newsletter and download my free ebook on how to start a blog and make money from this link.

As soon as you’ve a topic to make an ebook, you can use keyword research tools to double check the average monthly search volume of the major keyword in the niche. This is to further confirm if there is enough demand beyond your circle of followers or tribe.

You’ve to conduct your due diligence to evaluate and access the competition as well. Look out for other merchants, vendors and authors who are actively promoting similar products on the same topic. This will help you to discover if you’re missing out any relevant information which should be included in the electronic book.

At several instances, I do subscribe to email newsletters of these book promoters to learn about complementary bonuses that they are also adding to the ebook for sale. As an ebook author or writer, you must not leave any stone unturned if your goal is to sell high volume of your book in the foreseeable future.

Your primary target is to get positive book reviews at the beginning which you can wield as testimonials and social proof to sell more of it.

Step #4: Create an Ebook Outline to Guide You While Writing

Before now, I guess you’ve been taking down notes of every conceivable ebook idea or subtopic to incorporate in your writing project. Creating an ebook outline will guide you while writing your piece without missing out on essential points which will make the ebook worthwhile for your potential buyers.

I always take the time to create an ebook outline because it may eventually double as my table of contents. Also, while writing the sales letter, I’ll use the detailed outline to create bullet points of the benefits derivable from purchasing my ebook.

Some years back, I wrote an electronic book on how to write an ebook and make money. One of the subtopics I discussed was how to secure your ebook on your web hosting servers from unauthorized downloads so that you can sell more of it.

Although I retired the book after some years of selling it, I had a lot of sales because I made sure every information I wanted to write about and include in the ebook were in the outline. It made it easy for me to write a compelling sales letter that was all-encompassing and I did not have refunds.

Every chapter will focus on an integral topic with subtopics associated with it. A good outline helps to organize and guide your thoughts while writing an ebook. However, some authors can prefer to use mind map tool to achieve the same goal as it’s visually appealing to follow through.

Step #5: Write the Ebook

Writing an ebook is where the bulk of the work is. If you’re lazy to the bone, you may not be able to complete your first ebook writing project in a year or so. But always bear it in mind that the relevance and quality of your book is paramount to your target audience.

The common saying that the taste of the pudding is in the eating comes to mind here. You want to sell an ebook on a topic where you’ll get rave reviews from customers who are satisfied with their purchases. This is why expertise on the subject matter is important as well as your internet research skills to find vital information to include in your work.

While creating your ebook outline is the planning stage, writing the ebook is the execution phase. In other words, your book outline is the skeleton, and the actual writing is the task to flesh up the skeleton and make it visible and tangible in the marketplace.

First, you’ve to create a deadline to finish writing your electronic book and make sure you follow through. Otherwise, you may continue to procrastinate endlessly without any result. As much as you can, don’t bother about editing and proofreading at this stage. Your ebook draft is not a finished product yet.

There will be a time to cross your t’s and dot your i’s. You can call this the “brain dump” stage.

Your main concern is to write all the ideas in your head on paper or computer which is the crux of the matter. So, re-organizing your thoughts for coherence and cohesion will come later.

You’ve to weave in stories, facts, figures, statistics, quotes and references where necessary to buttress your credibility and authenticity on every information you’re sharing. You should not forget that writing an ebook is the building stage while editing is the decorating phase. Your goal is to complete the writing work as soon as possible and start decorating and formatting it into the final package that will be ready for the market.

If you’re determined to take this as your main side hustle business, you’ll soon discover that learning and mastering how to write an ebook and make money is a piece of cake. It’s all about what you know or willing to research and be willing and able to pass on the information to your intended audience succinctly.

This is why your writing style, tone and lexicon of your ebook should resonate with your target audience. It helps to clear the fog! But you’ve to be conversational and friendly in your writing of course.

Step #6: Edit and Proofread the Ebook

At this point, you’ve done 70 percent of the writing work. This is the time to start putting finishing touches to your digital product package. How well you edit and proofread your ebook will determine the high perceived value people will attach to it.

Obviously, it’s expensive to hire a copyeditor but there are other ways to go around it. You can engage your close family and friends to do it for you. If you have an eye for details, you can edit and proofread the ebook yourself. The only thing is to leave it for 2 to 3 days after writing an ebook before you start editing it.

Allowing some days to elapse before editing and proofreading a book will give you a set of fresh eyes and mind to quickly spot grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, sentence structure, and so on.

Step #7: Format the Ebook

At this level, you’ve an ebook to sell but you’ve to make it presentable and attractive. Formatting and designing your ebook start from the ebook title and cover image. If you don’t know how to make an ebook cover with free design tools like Canva, you can hire a freelancer to do it for you for a fee.

Aligning the chapters, pages and images of your ebook so that it will be good and easy to read is what matters. I started using OpenOffice.org writing software which is free open source and it has been awesome. I only invest few dollars to create an ecover to paste on the front page of the ebook and I’m done. I focus more on the meat (i.e. content) of the book that I want to write.

Step #8: Write the Sales Letter to Promote Your Ebook

Now that your ebook is ready to launch, what is the next step? You’ve to write a sales letter to promote your ebook. A sales or landing page is where the sales copy will be uploaded if you’re selling the ebook from your website.

Even if you’re not selling from your own website, it’s important you register a domain name and buy web hosting to start a blog targeting your niche. Blogging is one of the best digital marketing strategies you can deploy to promote your ebook, digital products and services on the internet.

Getting a domain name and website hosting is cheap and affordable. HostGator web hosting is highly reliable, and I’ll gladly recommend them for your needs. I use HostGator web hosting company to host majority of my blogs and websites. Click here to sign up with HostGator and check out the hosting plans that fits your budget and requirements.

The content of your sales letter includes several points which I’ll list here:

  • A compelling or catchy headline.
  • Sub headline reinforcing the benefit stated in the main headline.
  • Introduction of your ebook as solution to identified problems.
  • Statement of the problems which you’ve an answer or solution to.
  • Bullet points of the benefits of buying your ebook.
  • Call to action (CTA) directing your readers where to buy it i.e. the order page.
  • Testimonials and social proof, if any, to encourage visitors to open their wallets now.
  • Money back guarantee to remove fear and doubt from your leads and prospects.

You can look at your competitors’ sales letters to pick their brains. Your landing page can make or mar your sales funnel. So, you must spend time to write a good sales copy to sell your ebook. In my next blog post on how to write an ebook and make money, I’ll discuss the remaining steps to help you get started in earnest.

How to Maximize Inbound Marketing Strategy to Generate More Sales and Revenue

In today’s dynamic marketplace, selling products and services is becoming harder and harder by the day and this because of keen competition amongst industry players. Even if you’ve superior product or service on the shelf to sell, you still must step up your game to create brand awareness for it to fly. And as a budding online entrepreneur, this may be a Herculean task to accomplish.

However, there is a way to get around this and consistently generate leads for your business. Firstly, you’ve to come up with unique value proposition that is superior to your competitors. Secondly, you’ve to back up your unique value proposition with consistent but high-quality content that will wow your niche audience to your website or brand. This way you’ll be able to survive and thrive in your business or industry by having an opportunity to constantly interact with your target audience.

This is where having superior digital inbound marketing strategy in place is critical to your success if you’ve an online business of any type. But you don’t want to look too salesy to your potential leads or prospects in your marketing campaigns while expecting to record measurable results. And at the same time, you want to consistently generate more leads, sales and revenue to be able to sustain your internet business profitability in the foreseeable future.

So, the best way to achieve this goal is through constant content and inbound marketing strategy which I’ll be discussing in this blog article. As you may already know, not many entrepreneurs have the deep pockets to invest in outbound marketing especially when they are just starting out.

To this end, if you’re searching for low-cost ways to drive free targeted traffic to your blog, creating top-quality content and distributing it on and off your website is the way to go.

What is Inbound Marketing?

Inbound marketing can best be described as the creation of content and distribution of same on various platforms to attract and convert leads to customers. For you to create brand awareness and generate leads for your business on a regular basis, you need to build trust and credibility with your target audience. You can successfully achieve this goal by demonstrating your expertise around your business topics before thinking of selling any product or service to your niche market.

In other words, your content marketing efforts is not intrusive or interruptive in any way, but you want your prospects to find your online business through useful and unique content that you regularly publish on your web property or third-party websites which will be of interest to them. From there, they can decide to learn more about you and what you are selling through CTA (call to action) or web links which you provide.

You can start your digital inbound marketing with a combination of strategies including blogging, SEO (search engine optimization), email marketing, content marketing and social media marketing. These are the major ways to pull in potential customers to your blog website without being pushful.

As an inbound marketer, you’ve to wear many hats at the same time except you’ve the big budget to outsource or hire freelancers especially in the areas of content creation and SEO. But if you’re working on a shoestring budget, you can still kickstart your inbound marketing successfully with smattering of SEO and content marketing.

Show Your Audience How Much You Care for Them

By consistently publishing content that solve the pain points and needs of your target market, the more you’re showing them how much you care. Selling is not about being pushy with your product or service but by conveying the benefits of using it through stellar content and handling any objections truthfully whenever they come up.

For you to maximize the benefits of inbound marketing, you’ve to understand the customer’s journey and create relevant articles or blog posts to satisfy each topic or subject matter at every stage of the customer’s journey.

Stages in the Inbound Marketing Strategy

Before anything else as a content creator, you’ve to research and understand your target audience needs as well as every stage they are currently at on the buyer’s journey. You may want to draw up buyer personas to have a visual understanding of what exactly to expect and what content to write about.

Meanwhile, buyer personas is a fictional representation of your ideal customers. Drawing it up will facilitate your efforts to create content that will address the problems and pain points of your intended audience.

For example, writing a blog post on digital marketing for beginners will have a beginner’s tone and style which will be quite different from if you were writing for veteran internet marketers on the same topic. In other words, your niche lingos and lexicon must be toned down for a beginner to grasp your message.

The stages in the inbound marketing methodology are attract, convert, close and delight. You must create content tailored to each of the above phases differently to guarantee best results.

Attract

Your first task in the inbound marketing cycle is to attract with remarkable content as many targeted visitors or strangers who will ultimately represent your leads and potential customers on your blog website. You should not forget that first impression matters and last long in any relationship.

To put it succinctly, your job is to put your best foot forward before your target audience by demonstrating your expertise and then using the medium to create awareness and build credibility for your brand. Creating content that is useful and helpful will do the magic.

Conducting keyword research to discover users search intent and targeting these search queries when creating blog content and complementing it with social media marketing will make the difference in your inbound marketing strategy.

Convert

When visitors come to your website to read up your blog posts or articles, you’ve only few seconds to wow or lose them. What this means is that creating top-quality content to answer the pain points and problems of your target readers is a given for you to turn them to leads or customers sooner or later.

However, you’ve to make sure that conversion tools such as subscription form, landing pages, compelling CTA (call to action) text, etc, are properly put in place. To add to this, you must create the right incentives or freebies to cajole your visitors to further do business with you by giving you their names or email addresses in exchange for the free give away.

Close

For you to seamlessly close a website visitor or stranger to become a lead or buyer in the customer journey, you’ve to do several things right from the get-go. Understanding TOFU, MOFU and BOFU at this level is very vital to your success.

The inbound marketing sales funnel requires specific content to attract, convert, close and delight prospects and customers or clients at every stage.

Delight

Turning a lead or prospect to a customer is just the beginning of a business relationship. There is more work you’ve to do to keep customers loyalty to your brand. This is why focusing on customer-centric information and communicating same on a timely basis is paramount to your profitability.

Statistics have it that it costs less to keep an existing customer than to acquire new one. This should compel you to create a desk for after-sales support. An active customer support will endear your clients to become brand promoters and advocates.

If you ask me any day, the best and easiest way to acquire a customer is by word of mouth or referral because it doesn’t involve hard selling but by recommendation. Customers experience with your business brand will convince them whether to blow your trumpet in the marketplace or not.

Inbound Versus Outbound Marketing

As a matter of fact, inbound and outbound marketing are complementary in the digital marketing space. However, inbound marketing essentially uses high quality and constant content to attract the right website visitors who want to learn and know more about your business. You can see it as earned or organic marketing.

On the other hand, outbound marketing involves buying attention in sundry places with paid advertising such as PPC (pay per click), sponsored posts, direct mail, trade shows, etc. Most outbound marketing methods are obstructive although results can be automatic or instant.

Steps for a Successful Digital Inbound Marketing Campaigns

The following steps have been outlined to help you start a successful digital inbound marketing strategy in any niche or industry.

  • Identify your target audience.
  • Research keywords which your target audience use to search for information of their interest.
  • Itemize their pain points from the questions your target audience are asking and search intent.
  • Create and publish researched and remarkable content addressing problems and pain points on your blog or third-party websites.
